The European Tech Embassy

Overview

A protected belle-époque townhouse on the Rue du Luxembourg — a landing point for international founders, steps from the European institutions.

The European Tech Embassy occupies a protected 19th-century townhouse at Rue du Luxembourg 15, in the heart of Brussels' European Quarter, within walking distance of the European Parliament and the European Commission. Built in an eclectic, bourgeois style, No. 15 is one of the Leopold Quarter's few original façades. Developed by Urban Life together with Unknown and a network of partners — JOIST Innovation Park, Adra, 28DIGITAL, 28:digital and Open & Agile Smart Cities — the Embassy is a gateway for international founders entering Europe: a place where entrepreneurs, technology organisations and European partners meet.

History

A building with a long story.

Gare du Luxembourg, early 1900s
Gare du Luxembourg, early 1900s
  1. 1837

Brussels lays out the Leopold Quarter — its first grand expansion beyond the old walls, a chic district for the city's elite.

  2. 1854

The Brussels-Luxembourg station opens; the Rue du Luxembourg becomes the axis linking the Throne Square to Luxembourg Square.

  3. Late 19th c.

No. 15 is built in an eclectic, bourgeois style — a stately row house bridging classicism and the belle époque, today a protected monument.

  4. 20th c.

Much of the Leopold Quarter makes way for the European institutions; No. 15 survives as one of the district's original façades.

  5. Today

The European Tech Embassy makes it a gateway for international founders entering Europe.
